What’s your triple crown?

“What’s Your Triple Crown?” is an inspiring 75 minute slideshow presentation detailing my travels completing thru-hikes of the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trail. As of 2021 there were only 525 individuals who have completed thru hikes of these 3 trails which makes up what is called the triple crown of hiking, in 2016 I became one of those 525… this is my story.

At the age of 28 I decided to quit my job of the last 6 years at the Courier Post Newspaper to attempt a thru hike of the AT. Having spent only 1 night in a tent prior I truly had no idea what I was getting myself into. Determined to discover what trail life had to offer, I completed my first thru hike in 2009 having walked roughly 2,190 miles from Georgia to Maine. 2012 found me hiking through the deserts of Southern California, into the snow capped Mts. of the High Sierras, through Oregon and Washington, this time nearly 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada along the PCT. I would complete the triple crown in 2016 having completed the CDT once again hiking from Mexico to Canada this time along the highest peaks of the Rocky Mts., a roughly 2,900 mile journey.

During this presentation you will hear the many accounts of hiking through terrible rain along the AT, learn what “trail magic” is, learn how thru hikers clean their water, make sure they have enough food and so much more. You will also get to see first hand what every hiker needs in their pack, including your tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, clothes, food and other miscellaneous items, how everything gets neatly packed up as this is what you will be caring with you for several months at a time. And finally, we will conclude with some amazing videos of wildlife including rattle snakes, black bear, Mt. sheep and moose!
